1 weekend, 2 days, 2 races, 1 tired az body!

March 31st, 2012 | Uncategorized | No Comments »

Last weekend was a busy one with 2 races on the agenda. The first was a 10km road race and the second was the triathlon club champs. With a pretty hectic and full on week of training under the belt I wasnt too sure what the body was going to be able to do – and very little was the answer.

First up the 10km on the Saturday. A hilly route on a gravel track made for a tough race. We set off and I led the race up until my body decided it wanted to get sick 4 times on the second 5km of the route. I stopped, sat down, got sick some more and then decided after a few mins of stop starting that I just wanted to get to the end of this as soon as I could.

My running fitness is no where to be seen right now so going through the first 5km in 20 mins over hilly terrain might have just set the lactic acid rolling that bit too fast…! It was an asbsolute scorcher of a day also which made those hills that bit harder!! I love the sun but not when you are tackling hills! I even achieved a new max heart rate- apparently 242 is humanly possible… either that or the garmin is playing tricks on me … !!!!

Anyway, home I went and out on to the bike for a recovery spin I went. A sweet 1.5hours on the bike in the beautiful wind of Palmy and I was set for racing the next day!

Sunday saw the triathlon club champs take place in Linton Army Camp. My body was wrecked but I really wanted to race becasue the format of the race was a backwards triathlon!! Swim last!! Sure where else would I get to do that!! So I hopped on my bike and made my way out to the race. A nice wee warm up on the bike to get there and I was set to race – maybe not ready but I’d give it a go anyway!

The buzzer went off and the 5km run was up first – I split 21.23 for the 5km – my legs absolutely roaring at me and then my brain started because the time was so bad – I’m finding it hard to come to terms with splitting bad times all the time but you’ll have that with injury I know. The bike was next – on to the road bike I went and it was a 4 loop route. I am also finding it hard to come to terms with not racing on my TT. Anyway, the swim was last and it was ROASHTIN! Either that, or I was roasting and well, ya – you get the picture! I finished up 2nd overall.

So 2 races – two 2nd places and 1 tired az body and 1 good nights sleep!

So the week just gone was another big week where I JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE 3 SWIMS WITH RYAN SISSONS – just sayin…!!! It was just the 2 of us in the pool so I can now add him to the list of famous elite triathletes I have swam with!! Super exciting stuff really!!!

Next week, we head to Australia for a wee holiday – cos you can just do that over here – up and go to Oz!! haha – crazy stuff really!!! I will be there to see the World Cup series olympic qualifer in Sydney so needless to say I will be very excited to see that ( and all my friends that I have recently swam with!!! lol!!!! )

Until next time … happy training!! :)

‘Aw yeah – thats a good idea, I’ll do that …’

So race began at 5am … up early in the dark hours of the morning to get lost on the way to registration and pass the masses of young people making their way home from their drunken antics the previous night! I tried to take a pic of my bike in transition but as you can see – it was too dark!!

First Race back – first race in NZ – 2nd place finish

February 15th, 2012 | Uncategorized | No Comments »

So last weekend, Feb 12th – I decided it would be as good a weekend as any to test myself – why not see where I stand with only 2 weeks of swimming behind me…Be a good test anyway yeah..?!!

So, down the road there was a weeny triathlon being run – 300m swim, 10km bike and 3km run – short and sweet. I decided a nice low key triathlon that nobody would hear about would be a nice relaxing way for me to get back stuck into the thick of it – Turns out i knew 4 or 5 people doing the race and word gets back to work about how I did – not what I had intended for but sure anyway – you’d have that.I even made the local paper and the website! January 28th, 2012 | Uncategorized | No Comments »

These past few weeks have been rather delightful! A trip to Spain with a best bud for a wee training get away and some nice day time activites during the day like walking for 4 hours around the Alhambra or cycling up a mountain on the heaviest mountain bikes ever or going for a hike in Monachil! It was amazing!
